Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your lodge in Arusha. Enjoy a scenic drive through Tanzania’s coffee and banana-growing landscapes, with possible views of Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day. Upon arrival, check in, settle into your accommodation, and relax after your journey.

Evening Welcome Briefing: Enjoy dinner while your safari consultant introduces the journey ahead, sharing insights into the wildlife, planned highland walks, seasonal conditions, and experiences awaiting you across Tanzania’s spectacular wilderness.

Day 2: Journey into the Ngorongoro Highlands

After breakfast, depart Arusha for a scenic drive into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, passing through the Great Rift Valley landscapes and the lush highlands. As you climb in altitude, the scenery transforms from acacia woodland to cool montane forests and open grasslands.

Arrive at your camp in the afternoon, surrounded by sweeping views of the highlands, traditional Maasai homesteads, and distant mountain ranges. After lunch, enjoy a gentle guided walk along the forest edge, discovering local wildlife signs, traditional cattle trails, and the unique relationship between the Maasai communities and their environment.

As evening approaches, relax by the fire and enjoy dinner in the cool highland atmosphere, preparing for the walking adventures ahead.

Day 3: Empakaai Crater Hike and Highland Exploration

After breakfast, drive to the rim of Empakaai Crater and begin a guided descent on foot with an armed Conservation Area ranger. The trail winds through lush montane forest before opening onto the crater floor, where a beautiful soda lake attracts flocks of lesser flamingos. Look out for buffalo along the lake’s edge and enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding Rift Valley landscapes, with the volcanic peak of Ol Doinyo Lengai visible on clear days.

After the hike back up the crater rim, enjoy lunch in the field or return to camp to relax. Spend the afternoon at leisure or take an optional walk through the surrounding highlands. You may also visit a neighbouring Maasai homestead to learn about traditional pastoral life and observe daily activities as families bring their cattle home.

Return to camp in the evening for dinner and a peaceful night in the cool Ngorongoro Highlands.

Day 4: Full-Day Safari in the Ngorongoro Crater

Begin the day with an early breakfast before driving along the crater rim to the descent road. As you descend into the vast Ngorongoro Crater, enjoy breathtaking views of the caldera, its towering walls, and the landscapes below. An early arrival offers excellent opportunities to observe wildlife as the day begins.

Spend the full day exploring the crater floor on game drives, searching for elephants, buffaloes, lions, flamingos, and other wildlife. The crater is also one of Tanzania’s important habitats for the endangered black rhino. Enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the remarkable scenery before continuing your wildlife exploration in the afternoon.

Later in the day, ascend the crater walls and return to camp through the beautiful highland landscapes. Relax over dinner and reflect on an unforgettable day in one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife destinations.

Day 5: Journey to Mwiba Wildlife Reserve

After breakfast, depart the Ngorongoro Highlands and travel southwest towards Mwiba Wildlife Reserve. Along the way, pass Olduvai Gorge, one of the world’s most significant archaeological sites, where you can stop to learn about discoveries that have shaped our understanding of early human history. Continue across the vast open plains, enjoying the changing scenery as the highland forests give way to grasslands and rocky landscapes.

Arrive at Mwiba in time for lunch before settling into your accommodation. In the afternoon, enjoy a guided walking safari with an armed professional guide through the reserve’s acacia woodlands and rocky terrain. Discover the smaller details of the wilderness, from animal tracks and bird calls to signs of wildlife activity.

After dinner, head out on an exciting night game drive using spotlights to search for nocturnal species such as genets, civets, bushbabies, and other elusive wildlife. With luck, you may even encounter a leopard or a lioness on the hunt before returning to camp for the night.

Day 6: Hadzabe and Datoga Cultural Experience & Mwiba Safari

Begin the morning with an early visit to the Eyasi Escarpment to meet members of the Hadzabe and Datoga communities. With respectful local guidance, learn about the Hadzabe’s traditional hunting and gathering practices and discover the Datoga’s pastoral lifestyle and ironworking traditions. This authentic cultural encounter offers insight into ways of life deeply connected to the surrounding landscape.

Return to Mwiba Wildlife Reserve for lunch before spending the afternoon exploring its natural springs, dramatic gorge, and surrounding wilderness. Enjoy a game drive in search of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, elands, and resident predators that frequent the area, particularly around water sources during the dry season. Alternatively, relax at camp and take in the peaceful views across the gorge.

As evening falls, enjoy dinner at camp while listening to the sounds of the African wilderness surrounding your accommodation.

Day 7: Journey to the Serengeti – Exploring the Moru Kopjes

After breakfast, depart Mwiba Wildlife Reserve and travel north into Serengeti National Park, crossing the vast southern plains. Depending on the season, you may encounter enormous herds of wildebeest and zebras during the Great Migration, particularly during the calving season from December to March. Along the way, enjoy wildlife sightings as the journey itself becomes part of your safari experience.

Arrive in the Moru sector in the early afternoon and settle into your camp. Spend the afternoon exploring the dramatic Moru Kopjes, where ancient granite rock formations rise above the grasslands. These rocky outcrops provide shelter for wildlife, including klipspringers, hyraxes, and resting lions, while the surrounding plains offer excellent game-viewing opportunities.

As evening approaches, return to camp for dinner and relaxation. Enjoy the tranquility of this quieter region of the Serengeti, where your three-night stay allows plenty of time to explore without the need to change camps each day.

Day 8: Moru Rock Art, Rhino Tracking & Kopjes Exploration

Spend a full day exploring the remarkable Moru Kopjes region of the Serengeti, with a picnic lunch packed for your adventure. Begin the morning by visiting ancient Maasai rock paintings, featuring traditional shields and figures painted in red and white ochre beneath a rocky overhang. Continue to the nearby Gong Rock, a remarkable granite formation historically used as a signaling instrument.

In the afternoon, explore the area known for its protected black rhino population. Although sightings cannot be guaranteed, your experienced guide will help you search for these endangered animals while looking out for lions, leopards, buffaloes, hippos, and diverse birdlife around the kopjes and marshes.

Optional Experience: Hot-Air Balloon Safari

Enhance your adventure with a pre-dawn hot-air balloon flight over the southern Serengeti plains. Watch the landscape glow with the first light of sunrise before celebrating your flight with a champagne bush breakfast. Cost: USD 599 per person.

Return to camp around sunset and enjoy dinner beneath the vast African sky.

Day 9: Full-Day Serengeti Safari at Your Own Pace

Enjoy a relaxed day exploring the Serengeti, with game drives tailored around recent wildlife sightings and your interests. Accompanied by your experienced guide, revisit areas where lions, leopards, or cheetahs have recently been spotted, or explore new sections of the plains in search of exciting wildlife encounters.

Return to camp around midday for lunch and time to relax, soaking in the peaceful atmosphere of the African wilderness. Later in the afternoon, head out for another game drive when the golden light creates spectacular scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Pause at a scenic kopje to enjoy sundowners overlooking the endless plains before returning to camp after sunset for dinner and your final evening in the Serengeti.

Day 10: Final Game Drive and Departure

Enjoy a final short game drive through the Serengeti as you make your way to Seronera Airstrip. Along the way, take in the last views of the sweeping plains and look out for any final wildlife sightings before boarding your scheduled light aircraft flight to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

Upon arrival, connect with your onward flight or continue with your travel arrangements.
